From Kandinsky to Wianta:

Fine Art Notes (1975-1997)

Siti Adiyati

This book is about Siti Adiyati writings that contain 6 essays, and 32 writings from events, exhibitions, until art markets. Siti Adiyati is one of the artists in JIWA: Jakarta Biennale 2017 with artwork “Gold Flowering in Water Hyacinth” (1979). “From Kandinsky to Wianta, Fine Art Notes” has been published for the publication of historical records in Indonesia Fine Arts Movement and international art events back in 1975-1997. The book is discussiing artworks include the documentary.

Atiek, as people called her, divides the book into two chapters. The first one is the New Fine Arts Movement in Indonesia (a group where she was included as the member), art markets in Paris, retrospective exhibition, Kandinsky, the sensation of Louvre Pyramid, until reviews about Indonesian artists such as Hendra, Affandi, Sudjojono, Srihadi, Mochtar Apin, until Dede Eri Supria. On the second chapter, Atiek presents her writings with more extensive topics about art criticism, art movement and the relation between arts and cultures. This book informs us about the process of the artists with their work, how they seek, survive and through every trap they encountered. She observes the connection between the artists’ life and their works, between their thoughts and their mood swings.

The writings by Siti Adiyati are very interesting notes to be observed in witnessing the developments of the world of fine arts, especially in Indonesia.
